We are on a mission to make industrial data useful so manufacturers can rapidly and securely scale their Industry 4.0 projects from pilot to enterprise-wide production.
Early adopters of digital transformation recognize that industrial data – or the operations data coming from machines, processes, and products on the plant floor – contains critical insights. More users and systems want access to this data in real-time to convert it into useful information they can act on, like predicting machine failure, preventing downtime, and improving product quality. However, one major issue has slowed progress: The existing data infrastructure cannot support the vision of Industry 4.0.
Raw operations data lacks context, standards, and correlation. And operations data without context is virtually useless to a user in another business function who needs to understand and analyze that data. To address this problem today, many IT and data science teams spend 80% of their time curating, integrating, and preparing data for analysis rather than actually analyzing it. Engineers write custom Python scripts for each integration. These are hard to maintain, time-consuming, and often insecure.
To solve this problem, HighByte developed the Intelligence Hub, an Industrial DataOps solution purpose-built for industrial data. HighByte Intelligence Hub is edge-native, running on a user’s platform-agnostic hardware of choice. The solution connects to data sources and consuming applications over secure open standards, models this data into useful information, and then manages the flow of this information to all the applications that require it. The software offers a code-free UI. The solution is easy to deploy and maintain across the enterprise using multi-hub configuration and a federated architecture.

The promise of Industry 4.0 has many manufacturing leaders thinking big. They envision a future in which real-time access to data opens the door to unprecedented levels of operational flexibility, predictability, and business improvement. In this article, HighByte Chief Product Officer John Harrington introduces a framework to help organizations understand where they are on their data maturity journey—and where they need to go to achieve the results they expect. It’s a 4-stage process that includes data access, data contextualization, site visibility, and enterprise visibility.
As companies adopted Industry 4.0 technologies, they often begin with lofty visions but very basic initial projects. Many found their initial project was successful but follow-on projects stalled and failed to scale. Their data infrastructure could not support the increasing complexity. Your manufacturing plant produces more than just goods. It’s also a data factory, creating a limitless volume of data. But how do you “manufacture” information from this raw data? By applying the same lean concepts that transformed manufacturing over the past 3 decades to your data management. Read this article, “How to apply lean manufacturing to data management," to explore how the 3 steps of lean—Purpose, Process, and People—can help you transform raw industrial data into information.
