Engineering Manager

Reports To: Chief Technology Officer
Position Status: Full-Time  
FLSA Status: Exempt
Compensation: Starting at $130,000/year
Location: Portland, Maine headquarters, hybrid, or fully remote location within the United States  
 
Position Summary

As an Engineering Manager at HighByte, you will oversee a team of Engineers in the completion of engineering projects. Your day-to-day work will primarily revolve around hiring and training qualified engineering staff, writing and delivering employee reviews, and helping employees to troubleshoot issues and deliver on multiple projects in high-impact areas. As an Engineering Manager, you will work with the Chief Technology Officer to set project timelines and deadlines, drive roadmap creation and execution, and set clear expectations and goals for the Engineering team.
 
Essential Functions

  • Contribute to technology vision and initiatives 
  • Lead teams that deliver on multiple projects in a high-impact area
  • Work with your team and Product Management to define and influence technical, process, and product strategy
  • Measure the impact of your team and set clear expectations and goals
  • Facilitate peer design and implementation reviews 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, partners, and end-users 
  • Partner with leadership to influence and drive organizational structure, contribution, and prioritization
     

Skills

  • Both highly technical and an effective people manager
  • Experience with managing software development teams
  • Experience with on-premises application development  
  • Experience with various software development tools (IntelliJ, Visual Studio, Atlassian, and GitHub preferred) 
  • Understanding and practice with agile software development (SCRUM) 
  • Familiarity with various operating systems (Windows and Linux), virtualization (Virtual Box) and containerized (Docker) environments 
  • Familiarity with industrial automation, IIoT, analytics, and/or machine learning a plus 
     

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent foreign degree in engineering or related field 
  • 5+ years of professional managerial experience (B2B software teams preferred) 
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical teams, including performance management
